Fire Recruit Academy

 

The Fire Recruit Academy is open to current senior high school students.  Students will be expected to volunteer each week at their local or nearby fire station.  The Academy is offered through Madison Area Technical College and provides five non-degree credits.  These credits transfer into MATC’s Fire Protection Program. 

 

Completion of the Fire Recruit Academy prepares the students to take the State of Wisconsin Firefighter I and Firefighter II Certification Examinations; this is an International Fire Service Accreditation (IFSA).    The 200 hours of Fire Training includes SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus), extinguishers, ladders, hoses, ventilation, forcible entry, extrication, repelling, salvage/overhaul, cause/origin of Fire, hazardous materials, fire ground operations, live fire, etc.  The following courses are offered in the Fire Recruit Academy:

  1. Entry Level Fire Fighter Course
  2. Firefighter I
  3. Hazardous Materials
  4. Firefighter II

Start Date:

 

Classes begin on January 12, 2009 and end on May 27, 2009.

Students will meet on Mondays and Wednesday from 4:30-8:30 p.m.

There may be a few Saturday meetings.
