The Dane County Information Technology YA is designed to present a broad industry overview. It is competency based with defined skill levels that you must master through combined classroom & work-based instruction provided at the job site.
YA students interested in the Information Technology program may choose to take either a one-year or two-year program that combines classroom instruction with mentored on-the-job training.
When the school-based and work-based requirements are met for either the one or two-year programs, the students receive a Certificate of Occupational Proficiency from the Department of Workforce Development.
A YA student may take Information Technology courses at their local high school, Madison Area Technical College, or Herzing College.
Prerequisites

On track for high school graduation

Students are encouraged to take IT related courses within their local high school previous to participation in IT YA

Career exploration of IT

All students are encouraged to successfully complete at least one job shadow previous to enrollment in YA
One Year Requirements

Technical courses in PC Hardware & Troubleshooting (IT Essentials) and Project Management

450 hrs. work-based on-the-job training

Grading of C or better in all related classroom courses
Two Year Requirements

Database Management and Networking Fundamental courses

900 hrs. work-based on-the-job training

Grading of C or better in all related classroom courses
Industry Certification
Successful completion of the program qualifies students to pursue a number of industry-standard certifications, including A+, Network + and other Microsoft Office certifications. |
