Robert-Mau-3-Def_health_web The Wisconsin Health Science YA Program is designed to provide students with a working understanding of core health science industry skills and occupationally specific technical skills in four of the five pathways within the Health Science industry.

This program provides the framework for educators and industry to work together to produce work-ready, entry-level employees that will compete favorably in a global market, as well as, provide for post-secondary educational advancement while integrating work-based learning in the school and worksite.

YA students are required to learn and preform all of the Core Employability and Safety & Security skills at the worksite. Level One (one year) YA students choose technical competencies from a MINIMUM of ONE technical skills unit listed above. Level Two (two year) YA students complete competencies from a MINIMUM of TWO technical skills units listed above.

  • Entering junior or senior status
  • Display a genuine interest in the Health Services Pathway
  • Submit a completed application along with references
  • Interview effectively and get hired
  • Maintain a high level of attendance
  • Secure transportation to the job
  • On-track for high school graduation

Courses in the Health Youth Apprenticeship program very depending on which unit a students is pursuing and what courses are available at their home school districts. Students can also attend a variety of other courses through the Dane County School Consortium or at Madison Area Technical College. Most often students will begin with a Health Careers class followed by Nursing Assistant, Medical Terminology, and Anatomy and Physiology (Body Structure). Students who are pursuing higher education should schedule as many science classes as possible into their Career Plan.

Health Immersions I – an introduction to 2-year health occupations
Health Immersions II-an introduction to 4-year health occupations
