Auto Tech Student

The Wisconsin Automotive Technician YA Program is designed to provide students with a working understanding of core employability and technical skills, as well as occupationally specific skills that serve as the standard for occupational pathways in the automotive service industry.

This program provides the framework for educators and industry to work together to produce work-ready, entry-level employees that will compete favorably in a global market, as well as, provide for post-secondary educational advancement while integrating work-based learning in the school and worksite.

Transportation, Distribution, and Logisitics YA Brochure

Students will learn a variety of skills related to being an automotive technician.  A list of skills can be seen by looking at the Youth Apprenticeship Automotive Checklist.

  • Junior or Senior Status (application can be submitted earlier to your home school district)
  • Display a genuine interest in the Automotive Technician pathway.
  • Submit a completed application along with references.
  • Interview effectively and are hired
  • Maintain a high level of attendance.
  • Secure transportation to the job.
  • On track for high school graduation.

In partnership with McFarland High School and Madison Area Technical College students who are unable to attend a NATEF Certified Auto Program at their home high school can attend the Dane County Automotive class held at McFarland High School one night a week.  Second year students will attend Madison Area Technical College 2 nights a week.

Students who complete the first year (junior) of the program at their home high school should plan on attending the second year program at Madison Area Technical College.  For more information students should talk with their School to Career Coordinator.
