    Colton Meinecke Deerfield Class Of 2012 Company: Genus PLC Program: STEM What did you love about YA? I loved my work because I was learning hands-on laboratory skills at a world-leading company. There was a sense that big things were happening there and it was exciting. How did YA influence your plans after high school? While I was already interested in studying the biological sciences, the YA Program placed me right at the heart of industry and exposed me to the excitement that sits at the intersection of discipline and discovery. The program opened my eyes to multiple paths into the sciences and led me to study microbiology in college. What do you want others to know about YA? The YA Program is a terrific way to invest your time. The people you meet and skills you gain stick with you!

The YA experience helped me identify what I wanted to do in college and I believe the experience and connections I gained during that program helped me get into the UW-Madison. How did YA influence your plans after high school? Graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a BS in Biology, worked for the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene in virology for a little over 2 years before moving to MDH-PHL in the virology lab and then as safety officer for the past 6.5 years. My entire career post-graduation has been in public health. Current position: Laboratory Safety Officer – Minnesota Department of Health Public Health Laboratory What do you want others to know about YA? ​

My goal is to take it even further. I am happy to get to be in this program as it helps the whole farm. It is an extra pair of hands.     Alyssa Knight Waunakee Class Of 2015 Company: BMO Harris Bank, Waunakee Program: Finance What did you love about YA? I knew from a young age that I was interested in finance and accounting and the YA program gave me the opportunity to explore that interest and really figure out what area of study I wanted to focus on in college. I went into my undergrad as an Accounting major and was able to excel in the program at UW-Whitewater because of the skills and knowledge base that I had developed in the YA program. How did YA influence your plans after high school? Completed a BBA in Accounting and minor in Spanish from UW-Whitewater in May 2019, interned at Deloitte Milwaukee my senior year of college, began sitting for my CPA exams in April 2019, attended UW-Madison for a Master of Accountancy, graduated in May 2020 and finished my last CPA exam in July 2020. What do you want others to know about YA? ​

Primarily learning professionalism in an office setting—interacting and working with others. As I applied for jobs and internships, interviewers were consistently impressed with the job experiences and tasks I had been responsible for. I also have maintained contact with my mentor and still connect with him on occasion. How did YA influence your plans after high school?
